Get Ready for the Rainforest Rhythms Happening!
Put on your Panama hat and grab your binoculars as we explore the wonders of the Amazon rainforest and other rainforests throughout the world. Our 4,000 square foot exhibition takes children on a simulated journey through the rainforest. Exhibits include a base camp where the journey begins, led by guides who teach the children what they will need for a successful trek. Next comes an exciting virtual river raft ride through the Amazon basin where children hear about the benefits of the rainforest on our environment as well as its colorful inhabitants. Watch out, though! You might get wet when a surprise tropical shower passes through or a giant insect lands on your head!
What’s that loud grinding noise coming from the edge of the rainforest? Oh no! It’s a bulldozer tearing down some of the trees. At this stop, the children learn about the negative effects of deforestation and are encouraged to yell “Stop doing that now!” The ride ends at a play area where the children further explore the animals and insects of the rainforest, as well as the various rainforest layers. Not to be missed among these exhibits is a wrestling pit stocked with 20-foot snakes (faux snakes, but don’t tell the kids…) – a favorite among the children!
A snack hut, face painting and drum playing round out the activities as children hear stories of the culture and customs of the people indigenous to the Rainforest. The children also get a chance to clean up a park that has litter and debris that can hurt our precious environment. The journey comes full circle at the beautiful kapok tree in the middle of our exhibition, where children review what they’ve learned and also study extinct and endangered animals. Donations to our rainforest fundraiser may also be given at this time.
The Rainforest Rhythms Exhibition runs from February 22nd – March 3rd with a special Open House on Saturday, February 27th between 9:30 am – 2:00 pm.
