Constellations - 2nd to 5th grade The Constellations is a multi-aged learning environment for children in second, third and fourth grade. (Fifth grade will be offered for the 2011/12 school year). The unique learning environment provides a rich experience for both the older and younger students. The program features highly individualized instruction in all core subjects. Small skill groups are formed based on both formal and informal assessments that are administered regularly throughout the school year. Our small student-teacher ratio of 8:1 and abundant materials and resources for every child in every grade allow us to provide a program individualized to the needs of each student. Constellation students learn to become responsible and independent. Many form lifelong friendships. Each week they enjoy the full compliment of Sundance creative arts including dramatics, dance, music, singing and lessons on the violin. There are several violin recitals, choral concerts and dramatic productions every year. Constellation children are given weekly language lessons in Mandarin and Spanish. Starting in 3rd grade, fencing and Tae Kwon Do are part of the physical education program in addition to instruction in various other sports and games. Japanese pottery will be part of the art program during the 2010/11 school year when the over all theme at the school is "It's a Small World." Many other art forms and media will be offered. The Constellations provides a truly unique learning experience that fosters lifelong skills, a love of learning, and exceptional preparation for future school success. |
